How do you put security on your Ebooks to keep them from being passed around for free? ClickBank is one payment option that is available. If you use ClickBank, it kind of gives you a little bit of built in security.

Here is how it works.  First off, you will create a sales page. When someone clicks on your ?buy? button, ClickBank will filter out if they have entered a valid credit card.  If the transaction goes through, then it will send your customer on to the page where they can download your product.  If their payment is no good, it will not send you to the download page. ClickBank does a pretty good job of not giving people your stuff for free.

However, once they download it to their hard drive, what is to keep them from sharing your ebook on the internet with everyone else? The short answer is there is nothing, because it is a PDF document.

There are password protected membership sites where you can have some more control over this type of thing. That is one of the reasons that I keep my stuff in one of these password protected membership sites. That way anyone who buys my product needs a unique user name and password to see the products, and if they do not have it or if they quit paying, then they are blocked from seeing it. My bread-and-butter product happens to be a seven hundred dollar course with a $97 per month subscription attached to it. That is worth protecting.  I might not go to the same lengths to protect a $27 Ebook.

If a few people share it, or if you are in the Christian or the home-school market, hopefully you do not have to worry as much about blatant sharing. I always put on my ebooks, ?This is not a free Ebook. If it is being shared and you did not pay for it, please be honest and delete this from your hard drive, and tell me who sent it to you.? Most people will delete it from their hard drive. As long as they know it is not free and they are not supposed to have it, most people will be pretty honest with you.

In short there is not a lot that you can do unless you use a password protected membership site or buy PDF protection software, which I will go into in another article.
